Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and Ponds Construction
Cape has completed Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and Pond Construction for clients such as Fortescue Metals Group, BHP Nickel West, Regis Resources and Blackham Resources.
To construct the outer Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) walls at Fortescue’s Windich site, Cape loaded, hauled, placed and compacted 1.4 million cubic metres of materials. The construction material was moisture conditioned in situ with a ‘rice’ paddy type of operation that ran 24 hours a day. Cape successfully ramped up from 0 to 70 fully operational team members in scheduled rosters to complete the project on time and on budget.
Cape also constructed three settlement and transfer ponds at Fortescue’s Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek mine sites.
The construction of the Goldfields TSF required the excavation of 127,890 cubic metres of tailings, which were placed and compacted to raise the perimeter walls by 2.5 metres. As this was a wet lift, constant control was required to ensure moisture and compaction levels were correct.
Since 2005, Cape has worked constantly on the Central discharge facility at Mt Keith, which has an internal wall perimeter of 15 kilometres. To date over 9,000,000 cubic metres of material has been excavated, dried, spread and compacted to continually raise the CTSF.
When it comes to TSF and Ponds, no matter what the size, location or dimensions, the Cape team has the ability and flexibility to ensure your projects are contained.
