Environmentally sensitive water-main crossings using horizontal directional drilling.

Cape Dunstans partnered with East Gippsland Water to deliver a $7 million critical water-main connection between Kalimna and Lakes Entrance.

The project combined a complex HDD crossing beneath North Arm with open-trench installation. Careful planning and construction minimised surface disturbance within the environmentally sensitive Gippsland Lakes Ramsar site.

Project delivery included:

A horizontal directional drilling crossing beneath North Arm, extending from Seaview Parade in Kalimna to Apex Park in Lakes Entrance.

Pullback of nearly 500 linear metres of 450 mm outside-diameter water main, integrated with a further 170 metres of open-trench installation.

Environmentally sensitive planning and construction sequencing designed to protect the Ramsar-listed site and minimise disruption during the region’s peak visitor season.
