Expertise

Fibre-optic cable installation across remote mining, road, rail and utility infrastructure.

Cape Dunstans, in partnership with Pilbara Aboriginal business Kurtarra, delivered the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of approximately 230 km of fibre-optic cable for Rio Tinto’s Gudai-Darri rail corridor.

The $11 million project was primarily delivered using cable ploughing and included complex crossings, underbores, containment systems, pit-and-pipe infrastructure and specialist fibre-splicing works.

Project delivery included:

Approximately 200 km of fibre-optic cable installed along the greenfield rail corridor, primarily using cable ploughing.

Underbores beneath the FMG rail line, a gas main and Great Northern Highway, together with cable-containment systems at creek and road crossings.

A further 30 km spur cable to Telstra Homestead Junction, including connections to the existing main-line fibre network and specialist splicing at signalling and asset-protection locations.
