CAPE breaks ground at Town of Cambridge’s $40m Underground Power Project

The $40 million underground power project in the Town of Cambridge is officially underway.

Mayor Keri Shannon said the project, spanning four sites in Floreat East, West, North and Wembley-West Leederville, would be complete in 18 months all going well.

“This is a momentous occasion and we’re very pleased to be breaking ground,” she said.

“For the people of Floreat, it’s been a long time coming.”

She said the desire for underground power had been in the community for a decade.

“In terms of the promotion of street trees and amenity, this will provide value back to ratepayers,” Ms Shannon said.

Western Power project manager Paul Wilson said the work would underground the entire distribution power network.

“These are the last remaining parts of the Town of Cambridge to go underground,” he said.

The three Floreat projects are all part of the State Underground Power Program, jointly funded by the state government, Western Power and local government, while the Wembley-West Leederville project is solely funded by the Town.
